In value terms, articles of zinc exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) represented roughly 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), achieving a 6.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +28.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest articles of zinc supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 18% share.

In Singapore, articles of zinc exports increased at an average annual rate of +9.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+1.4% per year) and Thailand (-6.1% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 6% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, articles of zinc imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +92.4% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 27%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

The purchases of the five major importers of articles of zinc, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore, represented more than two-thirds of total import. The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
