Baby Carriage Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

The Southeast Asian baby carriage market rose markedly to $X in 2022, picking up by 7.2% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, baby carriage production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 24%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of baby carriages exported in South-Eastern Asia declined to X units, waning by -3.1% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 65%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby carriage exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Malaysia (X units) represented the largest exporter of baby carriages, mixing up 51% of total exports. Indonesia (X units) held a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (17%), Cambodia (7.1%) and Thailand (4.7%).

Exports from Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Cambodia (+50.7%), Indonesia (+8.8%) and Thailand (+8.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +50.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Thailand increased by +26, +12, +7 and +2.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest baby carriage supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Cambodia ($X), with a combined 90% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +50.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, falling by -11% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 19%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of baby carriages imported in South-Eastern Asia expanded modestly to X units, increasing by 1.6% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, baby carriage imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +27.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Indonesia (X units) represented the key importer of baby carriages, committing 55% of total imports. Thailand (X units) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (13%). Singapore (X units), Vietnam (X units) and the Philippines (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+16.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +16.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-3.0%), Vietnam (-3.5%), Singapore (-8.0%) and the Philippines (-15.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Indonesia (+20 p.p.) and Thailand (+14 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-2.8 p.p.), Singapore (-8 p.p.), Malaysia (-9.3 p.p.) and the Philippines (-15.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest baby carriage importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 72% share of total imports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +11.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
