In 2021, approx. X tons of base stations were exported in South-Eastern Asia; rising by 74% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 139%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, base station exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 172% against the previous year. Vietnam represented the largest exporter of base stations in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 47% of total exports in 2021. Singapore (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together held near 51% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +83.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) emerged as the largest base station supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Vietnam amounted to +61.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+24.5% per year) and Singapore (+10.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 66%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of base stations, when their volume increased by 56% to X tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 59%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, base station imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Indonesia (X tons) was the major importer of base stations, mixing up 69% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 13% share, followed by Vietnam (6.5%). The Philippines (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of base stations. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+25.2%), Vietnam (+8.5%) and Malaysia (+3.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +25.2% from 2012-2021. Cambodia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Philippines (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines increased by +4.3, +4, +3.7 and +3.6 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported base stations in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 10% share.

In Indonesia, base station imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+3.2% per year) and Vietnam (+8.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -22.7% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 47%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
