The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, basic dye exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 56%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Malaysia represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 54% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 43% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to basic dye exports from Malaysia stood at +32.4%. At the same time, the Philippines (+65.1%) and Thailand (+16.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +65.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-6.2%) and Indonesia (-6.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Malaysia (+46 p.p.), Thailand (+12 p.p.) and the Philippines (+1.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-16.1 p.p.) and Singapore (-31.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 84% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 15%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +66.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -14.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.4% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 17%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, basic dye imports declined to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.8% against 2013 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

The purchases of the four major importers of basic dyes and preparations based thereon, namely Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), comprising a 6.2% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Malaysia and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 18%.

Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +13.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by -10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
