The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In general, imports enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 135%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. While the share of Indonesia (+29 p.p.), Myanmar (+4.8 p.p.) and Singapore (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Vietnam (-14.9 p.p.) and Malaysia (-22.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest travelling rugs of synthetic fibre importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 78% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 17%.

Among the main importing countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +20.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, shrinking by -20.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
