Brassiere Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the Southeast Asian brassiere market decreased by -8.7% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, brassiere production expanded sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production decreased by -7.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

Brassiere exports surged to X units in 2021, with an increase of 27% on the previous year. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, brassiere exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X units) and Indonesia (X units) dominates exports structure, together mixing up 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Cambodia (X units) and Thailand (X units), together mixing up a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Cambodia (with a CAGR of +34.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest brassiere supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 9.3% share.

In Vietnam, brassiere exports increased at an average annual rate of +21.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+5.9% per year) and Cambodia (+37.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -8.5% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 6%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, overseas purchases of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated increased by 15% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, brassiere imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -20.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia was the largest importer of brassieres of textile materials, whether or not elasticated in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X units, which was near 50% of total imports in 2021. Thailand (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X units). All these countries together held approx. 40% share of total imports. Singapore (X units), Cambodia (X units) and the Philippines (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Indonesia increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Cambodia (+23.4%), Malaysia (+11.5%) and Thailand (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cambodia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +23.4% from 2012-2021. Singapore experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the Philippines (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Indonesia (+8 p.p.), Malaysia (+6.1 p.p.) and Cambodia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore, the Philippines and Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.2%, -3% and -10.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest brassiere importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 64% share of total imports. Singapore, the Philippines and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +25.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, rising by 4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
