Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+45.2%) and the Philippines (+19.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Singapore (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Lao People's Democratic Republic increased by +4 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest brewing dregs supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a 3.7% share.

In Vietnam, brewing dregs exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+1.9% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+40.1% per year).

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -10.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. In 2022, approx. X tons of brewing or distilling dregs and waste were imported in South-Eastern Asia; waning by -18.1% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 68%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, brewing dregs imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 53%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) was the main importer of brewing or distilling dregs and waste, generating 54% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 29% share, followed by Thailand (6.2%) and the Philippines (5.7%). The following importers - Cambodia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up 4.8% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 88% share of total imports. The Philippines, Cambodia and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.

Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +18.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
