The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Malaysia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of brooms and brushes of twigs decreased by -43.1% to X units, falling for the fifth consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed a modest expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 82%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Malaysia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 25% share, followed by Vietnam (7.2%) and Thailand (5.3%). Singapore (X units) held a little share of total imports.

Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+59.4%) and Malaysia (+4.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +59.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-16.2%) and Singapore (-17.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Philippines (+25 p.p.), Vietnam (+7.1 p.p.) and Malaysia (+5.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Singapore (-10.3 p.p.) and Thailand (-25.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the Philippines ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 86% share of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +68.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 8.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, twig broom import price increased by +94.5% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 23%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
