Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Exports in South-Eastern Asia
For the third year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in overseas shipments of ceramic household articles and toilet articles, which decreased by -1.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic household article exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the largest exporter of ceramic household articles and toilet articles in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 51% of total exports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 45% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to ceramic household article exports from Thailand stood at -1.5%. At the same time, Singapore (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +4.3% from 2012-2021. Malaysia and Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Indonesia (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Malaysia (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia saw its share reduced by -6.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest ceramic household article supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 53% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 25% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Indonesia (-2.1% per year) and Vietnam (+3.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 19% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, the amount of ceramic household articles and toilet articles imported in South-Eastern Asia expanded modestly to X tons, increasing by 4.7% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic household article imports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, imports showed a mild expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Indonesia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) represented roughly 73% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Myanmar (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Singapore (X tons), together creating a 22% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Myanmar (with a CAGR of +22.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ceramic household article importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 36%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +19.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -3.3% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 34% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+32.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
