Over the period under review, exports recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ceramic statuette exports rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 16%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Vietnam prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 79% of total exports in 2021. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together took near 14% share of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 6.4% of total exports.

Vietnam experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of ceramic statuettes and other ornamental articles. At the same time, the Philippines (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +3.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-2.7%), Malaysia (-9.8%) and Indonesia (-10.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Vietnam and the Philippines increased by +7.2 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the largest ceramic statuette supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with an 8.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 8.3% share.

In Vietnam, ceramic statuette exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+7.2% per year) and Thailand (+5.3% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.8%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+11.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of ceramic statuettes and other ornamental articles increased by 15% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, ceramic statuette imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a slight downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the key importer of ceramic statuettes and other ornamental articles in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 46% of total imports in 2021. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 14% share, followed by Singapore (13%), Vietnam (10%) and the Philippines (5%). The following importers - Cambodia (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) - together made up 6.7% of total imports.

Imports into Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Lao People's Democratic Republic (+23.5%) and Cambodia (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lao People's Democratic Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +23.5% from 2012-2021. Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Vietnam (-7.0%), Singapore (-9.3%) and the Philippines (-10.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Malaysia, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic increased by +26, +3.5 and +2.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a CAGR of +15.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 15%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
