Market Size for Flaked or Rolled Cereals in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, the Southeast Asian flaked or rolled cereal market decreased by -1.6% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. The total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Production of Flaked or Rolled Cereals in South-Eastern Asia
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal production expanded to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -2.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the production volume increased by 22%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
Flaked or rolled cereal exports fell markedly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -36.9% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 91%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 54%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Lao People's Democratic Republic represented the key exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 58% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) held a 28% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Myanmar (8.5%). Thailand (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to flaked or rolled cereal exports from Lao People's Democratic Republic stood at +37.4%. At the same time, Myanmar (+79.2%), Thailand (+8.0%) and Malaysia (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +79.2% from 2012-2022. Lao People's Democratic Republic (+50 p.p.) and Myanmar (+8.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -1.9% and -41.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, the largest flaked or rolled cereal supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 90% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Myanmar, which accounted for a further 4.7%.
Among the main exporting countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +104.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Myanmar (+14.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Flaked or Rolled Cereals
Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, purchases abroad of flaked or rolled cereals decreased by -37.1% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, flaked or rolled cereal imports contracted significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X tons), distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main importers of flaked or rolled cereals, together committing 99% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +22.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.
Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
