Cereal Market Size in South-Eastern Asia
The Southeast Asian cereal market dropped to $X in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
Cereal Production in South-Eastern Asia
In value terms, cereal production reduced modestly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), with a combined X% share of total production. Myanmar, the Philippines, Cambodia and Lao People's Democratic Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of X%), while production for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the production figures.
The average cereal yield fell modestly to X tons per ha in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the cereal yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of cereals increased by X% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cereal exports rose notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Myanmar was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for X% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lao People's Democratic Republic (X%) and Indonesia (X%). Thailand (X tons) took a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to cereal exports from Myanmar stood at X%. At the same time, Vietnam (X%) and Indonesia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Lao People's Democratic Republic (X%) and Thailand (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Myanmar (X p.p.), Vietnam (X p.p.) and Indonesia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Lao People's Democratic Republic saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Myanmar ($X) remains the largest cereal supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with an X% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Myanmar stood at X%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cereal export price increased by X% against 2017 indices. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, cereal imports rose sharply to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In 2022, Vietnam (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented the main importers of cereals, together achieving X% of total imports.
