The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, chlorides exports dropped to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 33%. In 2021, Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) was the key exporter of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) in South-Eastern Asia, generating 83% of total export. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), achieving a 13% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest chlorides supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Singapore ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand and Vietnam, which together accounted for a further 27%.

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 16%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+5.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
After five years of growth, overseas purchases of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) decreased by -1.8% to X tons in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +57.3% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, chlorides imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +63.1% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) represented roughly 95% of total imports in 2021. Cambodia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +20.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest chlorides importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 58% of total imports. Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
Among the main importing countries, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +20.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 13%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
