The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2020, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead exports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. In 2021, Vietnam (X litres) represented the largest exporter of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages, creating 55% of total exports. Thailand (X litres) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Singapore (16%) and Malaysia (8%).

Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+40.7%), Singapore (+37.4%) and Thailand (+15.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +40.7% from 2012-2021. Singapore (+13 p.p.), Malaysia (+6.8 p.p.) and Thailand (+3.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Vietnam saw its share reduced by -19.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest cider, perry and mead supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 94% of total exports.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +23.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per litre in 2021, with a decrease of -10.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 40%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per litre), while Vietnam ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-1.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X litres of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages were imported in South-Eastern Asia; which is down by -16.3% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X litres in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cider, perry and mead imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In 2021, Thailand (X litres) represented the largest importer of cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages, generating 48% of total imports. Singapore (X litres) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (15%) and Malaysia (6.8%). The following importers - Indonesia (X litres), Lao People's Democratic Republic (X litres) and Cambodia (X litres) - together made up 6.5% of total imports.

Imports into Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+41.3%), Lao People's Democratic Republic (+33.5%), Cambodia (+15.2%), Singapore (+8.4%) and Vietnam (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +41.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+13 p.p.), Indonesia (+2.6 p.p.) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Vietnam and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -4.8% and -11.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cider, perry, mead and other fermented beverages in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 8.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore totaled +14.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+10.9% per year) and Malaysia (+0.8% per year).

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per litre, falling by -12.2% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, cider, perry and mead import price increased by +59.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 44%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per litre), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
