The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 19%. In 2022, coffee substitutes exports in South-Eastern Asia rose markedly to X tons, increasing by 5.6% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 283% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, coffee substitutes exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 83%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the key exporters of coffee substitutes containing coffee in South-Eastern Asia, together amounting to near 68% of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Timor-Leste (X tons). All these countries together held near 26% share of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +63.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest coffee substitutes supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Myanmar, with an 11% share.

In Indonesia, coffee substitutes exports increased at an average annual rate of +53.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (-10.7% per year) and Myanmar (+2.5% per year).

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 100%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 77%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

In value terms, coffee substitutes imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 61% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Myanmar (X tons) represented the key importer of coffee substitutes containing coffee, generating 56% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Timor-Leste (X tons), making up a 36% share of total imports. The following importers - Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 6.2% of total imports.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Myanmar ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 13% share.

In Timor-Leste, coffee substitutes imports expanded at an average annual rate of +19.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Myanmar (-13.4% per year) and Malaysia (-10.7% per year).
