Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand was the major exporter of cotton sewing thread in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 40% of total exports in 2021. Vietnam (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 56% share of total exports. The following exporters - Cambodia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - each reached a 3.6% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to cotton sewing thread exports from Thailand stood at +4.7%. At the same time, Vietnam (+25.3%), Singapore (+11.7%), the Philippines (+4.5%) and Malaysia (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +25.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-3.0%) and Cambodia (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+14 p.p.) and Singapore (+6.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia saw its share reduced by -2.1%, -3.7% and -14.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest cotton sewing thread supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Thailand totaled +10.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-1.7% per year) and Vietnam (+25.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -11.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded slight growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 52%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, cotton sewing thread imports in South-Eastern Asia fell significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -20.6% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 37%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, cotton sewing thread imports reduced dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The purchases of the seven major importers of cotton sewing thread, namely Lao People's Democratic Republic, Myanmar, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Indonesia, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Lao People's Democratic Republic amounted to +23.8%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+21.3% per year) and Indonesia (-14.9% per year).
