In 2022, overseas shipments of butter and dairy spreads were finally on the rise to reach X tons after six years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) was the major exporter of butter and dairy spreads, creating 51% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held near 41% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 6.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +31.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 92% of total exports. The Philippines and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 7.7%.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +45.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 26% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X tons of butter and dairy spreads were imported in South-Eastern Asia; growing by 26% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported butter and dairy spreads in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Indonesia totaled +21.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+1.5% per year) and Malaysia (+6.5% per year).

Import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. Based on 2022 figures, butter and dairy spreads import price increased by +33.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 47%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
