Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic tableware and kitchenware exports expanded significantly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 24% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Vietnam was the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 42% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 52% share of total exports. Singapore (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +13.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 80% of total exports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +19.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the export price increased by 24%. In 2022, imports of plastic tableware and kitchenware in South-Eastern Asia dropped to X tons, falling by -8% on 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 52%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

The purchases of the five major importers of plastic tableware and kitchenware, namely Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons), together comprising a 12% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +23.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic tableware and kitchenware importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 66% of total imports. Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Cambodia, with a CAGR of +27.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -5.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
