In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of microwave ovens, when their volume decreased by -4.4% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
In value terms, microwave oven exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
Malaysia was the major exporter of microwave ovens in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports reaching X units, which was near 78% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X units), mixing up a 21% share of total exports.
Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the microwave ovens exports, with a CAGR of +3.1% from 2012 to 2022. Thailand (-4.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Malaysia increased by +16 percentage points.

For the fourth year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of microwave ovens, which increased by 5.7% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 10%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, microwave oven imports stood at $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Thailand (X units), distantly followed by the Philippines (X units), Malaysia (X units), Vietnam (X units), Singapore (X units) and Indonesia (X units) were the largest importers of microwave ovens, together constituting 98% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Philippines (with a CAGR of +9.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported microwave ovens in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 13% share.
