Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+8.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +8.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-8.7%), Malaysia (-16.5%) and Singapore (-17.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+26 p.p.) and Thailand (+6.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Malaysia (-10 p.p.), Indonesia (-10.2 p.p.) and Singapore (-12.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 93% of total exports.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +26.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 21% against the previous year. Export price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, export price for domestic, non-electric, cooking or heating appliances increased by +74.9% against 2012 indices. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +14.5% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
