Drawn glass and blown glass exports soared to X square meters in 2021, jumping by 29% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 74%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, drawn glass and blown glass exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 73% against the previous year. Exports from Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -6.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+92.8%) and Vietnam (+3.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +92.8% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Philippines increased by +21 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest drawn glass and blown glass supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were the Philippines ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising 96% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +157.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, after eight years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of drawn glass and blown glass, when their volume increased by 84% to X square meters. Overall, imports, however, faced a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, drawn glass and blown glass imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Malaysia was the largest importing country with an import of around X square meters, which reached 44% of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X square meters) held a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (10%), Myanmar (7.8%) and Singapore (4.6%). The Philippines (X square meters) and Cambodia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cambodia (with a CAGR of +41.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported drawn glass and blown glass in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X), with a 7.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Malaysia totaled +23.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Lao People's Democratic Republic (+17.9% per year) and Vietnam (-9.1% per year).
