The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 20% against the previous year. In 2022, the amount of dried prunes exported in South-Eastern Asia declined to X tons, with a decrease of -10.3% against the year before. Overall, exports saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dried prune exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Vietnam was the main exporter of dried prunes in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2022. Singapore (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took near 51% share of total exports. Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried prunes exports, with a CAGR of +12.9% from 2012 to 2022. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Singapore (-6.1%), Myanmar (-8.6%) and Thailand (-16.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+35 p.p.) and Malaysia (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Myanmar (-1.8 p.p.), Singapore (-13.7 p.p.) and Thailand (-22.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 95% of total exports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +14.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 63% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of dried prunes imported in South-Eastern Asia rose rapidly to X tons, growing by 13% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dried prune imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Vietnam was the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 58% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together comprising a 37% share of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dried prune imports into Vietnam stood at +1.3%. At the same time, Indonesia (+23.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +23.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-3.3%), Malaysia (-4.6%) and Thailand (-6.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+14 p.p.) and Indonesia (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -4% and -8.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Singapore ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 84% of total imports. Thailand and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +23.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
