In 2021, the amount of egg products exported in South-Eastern Asia rose rapidly to X tons, with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. In general, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 35%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, egg product exports rose markedly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -19.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Thailand represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 62% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (16%). Indonesia (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to egg product exports from Thailand stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Indonesia (+68.3%), Vietnam (+30.3%) and Malaysia (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +68.3% from 2012-2021. Vietnam (+15 p.p.), Malaysia (+9.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (+3.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -28% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest egg product supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 13% share.

In Thailand, egg product exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+20.6% per year) and Malaysia (+21.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Indonesia ($X per ton) and Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) and Vietnam ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, approx. X tons of egg products were imported in South-Eastern Asia; growing by 18% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, egg product imports totaled $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +48.8% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. In 2021, Thailand (X tons), distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) were the key importers of egg products, together mixing up 97% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Thailand (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and the Philippines ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 65% of total imports. Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +13.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, declining by -4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 23%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
