In 2022, Thailand (X units) was the largest exporter of electrical insulators of ceramics, mixing up 74% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), Singapore (X units) and Vietnam (X units), together mixing up a 23% share of total exports. The Philippines (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from Thailand increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% from 2020 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+466.3%), Malaysia (+17.2%) and Vietnam (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +466.3% from 2020-2022. By contrast, Singapore (-33.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Thailand (+6.3 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.2 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -9.9% from 2020 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest ceramic electrical insulator supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with an 11% share.
From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to -8.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (-2.0% per year) and Malaysia (+13.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, waning by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt descent. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+47.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Ceramic Electrical Insulator Imports
Imports in South-Eastern Asia
For the third year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in purchases abroad of electrical insulators of ceramics, which increased by 56% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 664% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, ceramic electrical insulator imports declined to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -26.9% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 55%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The Philippines was the main importer of electrical insulators of ceramics in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 46% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X units), Thailand (X units), Myanmar (X units), Indonesia (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units), together making up a 53% share of total imports.
Imports into the Philippines increased at an average annual rate of +44.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+53.6%), Vietnam (+26.6%), Singapore (+21.7%), Thailand (+16.9%), Malaysia (+10.8%) and Indonesia (+5.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Philippines, Myanmar and Vietnam increased by +37, +7.7 and +1.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest ceramic electrical insulator importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were the Philippines ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Thailand ($X), together accounting for 61% of total imports. Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and Myanmar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.
Myanmar, with a CAGR of +20.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -41.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 500%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-7.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
