After three years of growth, the Southeast Asian ECG market decreased by -20.6% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, showed a prominent expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2020, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, ECG production soared to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In 2021, shipments abroad of electro-cardiographs increased by 33% to X units, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 176% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In 2021, purchases abroad of electro-cardiographs decreased by -60.1% to X units for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 463%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then contracted notably in the following year.

In value terms, ECG imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a resilient increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Singapore was the major importing country with an import of around X units, which reached 62% of total imports. Malaysia (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Thailand (12%) and Indonesia (8.8%). Vietnam (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +20.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Thailand (+31.3%), Malaysia (+14.6%), Indonesia (+6.5%) and Vietnam (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.3% from 2012-2021. While the share of Singapore (+19 p.p.) and Thailand (+8.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Vietnam (-4.9 p.p.) and Indonesia (-10.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electro-cardiographs in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 8% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore totaled +21.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+9.0% per year) and Indonesia (+14.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 347% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate modest growth. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
