In 2021, Singapore (X units) was the largest exporter of electronic chips, committing 46% of total exports. Malaysia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by the Philippines (13%), Thailand (11%) and Vietnam (6.7%).
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electronic chip exports from Singapore stood at -2.1%. At the same time, Vietnam (+45.4%), Malaysia (+23.6%), Thailand (+11.7%) and the Philippines (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +45.4% from 2012-2021. Malaysia (+17 p.p.), the Philippines (+13 p.p.), Vietnam (+6.3 p.p.) and Thailand (+4.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore saw its share reduced by -40.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 89% of total exports.
Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +38.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, growing by 19% against the previous year. Export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, electronic chip export price increased by +44.8% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while Thailand ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, the amount of electronic chips imported in South-Eastern Asia shrank to X units, which is down by -3.8% against the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, electronic chip imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Singapore represented the largest importer of electronic chips in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X units, which was near 50% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X units), Malaysia (X units), the Philippines (X units) and Thailand (X units), together making up a 47% share of total imports. Indonesia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to electronic chip imports into Singapore stood at -3.7%. At the same time, Vietnam (+19.4%), the Philippines (+8.8%) and Malaysia (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +19.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Indonesia (-9.1%) and Thailand (-16.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+17 p.p.), the Philippines (+7.7 p.p.) and Malaysia (+4.3 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand saw its share reduced by -3.7%, -9.5% and -16.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported electronic chips in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 22% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 17% share.
In Singapore, electronic chip imports increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+22.3% per year) and Malaysia (+9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a strong expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
