Thailand was the key exporter of ethanal (acetaldehyde) in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2022. Indonesia (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand and Singapore saw its share reduced by -3.6% and -7.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest ethanal supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X), together accounting for 98% of total exports. These countries were followed by Malaysia, which accounted for a further 2.3%.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +12.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. In 2022, approx. X tons of ethanal (acetaldehyde) were imported in South-Eastern Asia; declining by -78.8% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 414% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ethanal imports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase.
