In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in the Southeast Asian expanded clays market, when its value increased by 3.6% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, showed a perceptible decline. In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the largest expanded clays supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 60% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Singapore ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with an 18% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Malaysia stood at +5.9%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+11.3% per year) and Thailand (+24.0% per year).

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 43% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 126% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, expanded clays imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a moderate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
