In 2021, shipments abroad of extruders for working rubber or plastics increased by 51% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports posted a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 169%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic extruder exports stood at $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Singapore (X units) was the largest exporter of extruders for working rubber or plastics, comprising 55% of total exports. Thailand (X units) held a 29% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Vietnam (5.3%) and Indonesia (5.2%). Malaysia (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +11.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest plastic extruder supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 9.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 9.3% share.

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, declining by -25.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 293% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of extruders for working rubber or plastics was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic extruder imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a mild curtailment. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Vietnam (X units), Thailand (X units) and Indonesia (X units) represented roughly 90% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), committing a 4.8% share of total imports. Singapore (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +13.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -13.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
