In 2021, approx. X tons of feldspar were exported in South-Eastern Asia; picking up by 29% on 2020. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +90.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, feldspar exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Thailand prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 96% of total exports in 2021. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the feldspar exports, with a CAGR of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand increased by +1.7 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest feldspar supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Thailand amounted to $X per ton.

In 2021, purchases abroad of feldspar increased by 18% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep reduction. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, feldspar imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the key importers of feldspar in 2021, reaching near 42% and 32% of total imports, respectively. Malaysia (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 25% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +1.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest feldspar importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for 87% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +3.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+11.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
