For the third year in a row, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in shipments abroad of fire extinguishers, which decreased by -20.3% to X units in 2022. Overall, exports saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 50%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fire extinguisher exports stood at $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X units) and Vietnam (X units) represented the largest exporters of fire extinguishers in 2022, recording near 44% and 39% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X units), mixing up a 13% share of total exports. Thailand (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +6.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

In value terms, the largest fire extinguisher supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), together comprising 91% of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Malaysia, with a CAGR of -0.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, fire extinguisher export price increased by +68.6% against 2017 indices. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, purchases abroad of fire extinguishers decreased by -9.5% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 88%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fire extinguisher imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -24.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Vietnam dominates imports structure, recording X units, which was near 64% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the Philippines (X units), Singapore (X units), Malaysia (X units) and Indonesia (X units), together comprising a 29% share of total imports. Thailand (X units) took a little share of total imports.

Vietnam was also the fastest-growing in terms of the fire extinguishers imports, with a CAGR of +51.5% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Philippines (+17.8%) and Indonesia (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Malaysia (-2.2%), Thailand (-2.3%) and Singapore (-3.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+61 p.p.) and the Philippines (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore saw its share reduced by -2.7%, -10.5%, -17.2% and -29.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the largest fire extinguisher importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X), together comprising 73% of total imports. The Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

In terms of the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +15.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2022, picking up by 8.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
