After two years of decline, shipments abroad of floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber increased by 36% to X tons in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, vulcanised rubber mats exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Malaysia (X tons), distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the largest exporters of floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber, together mixing up 98% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded growth in supplies from abroad of floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber, which increased by 18% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 34%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, vulcanised rubber mats imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 34%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The Philippines was the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 50% of total imports. Malaysia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Indonesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 39% share of total imports. The following importers - Vietnam (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) - together made up 7.7% of total imports.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the floor coverings and mats of vulcanised rubber imports, with a CAGR of +25.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Malaysia (+17.5%), Thailand (+10.1%), Myanmar (+9.7%) and Vietnam (+8.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Singapore (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of the Philippines and Malaysia increased by +32 and +4.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest vulcanised rubber mats importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were the Philippines ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for 64% of total imports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +23.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -1.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
