Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +21.3% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 73% against the previous year. Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the largest exporters of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs in 2021, recording approx. 40% and 34% of total exports, respectively. Myanmar (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Malaysia (6.3%). The Philippines (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
Seafood meals and pellets imports reduced remarkably to X tons in 2021, which is down by -15.4% against the year before. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +2.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

The purchases of the three major importers of flours, meals and pellets of fish or of crustaceans and molluscs, namely Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Malaysia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 9.9% share, followed by the Philippines (6.4%).

From 2016 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
