Myanmar was also the fastest-growing in terms of the frozen crabs and crabs meat exports, with a CAGR of +1.7% from 2012 to 2021. Malaysia and Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of frozen crabs and crabs meat increased by 7.3% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, frozen crab and crab meat imports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Indonesia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) represented roughly 62% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons), together mixing up a 35% share of total imports. Singapore (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +21.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest frozen crab and crab meat importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Thailand ($X), with a combined 87% share of total imports.

Thailand, with a CAGR of +12.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
