In value terms, fuse and detonator exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed modest growth. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The Philippines (X tons) and Thailand (X tons) were the largest exporters of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators in 2021, reaching near 37% and 33% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together creating a 25% share of total exports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by the Philippines (with a CAGR of +199.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) emerged as the largest fuse and detonator supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 14% share.

In 2021, overseas purchases of safety fuses, detonating fuses and electric detonators decreased by -2.3% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fuse and detonator imports rose to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 12%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
