The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plaster imports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 15%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Malaysia represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 57% of total imports. Vietnam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Indonesia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons). All these countries together held near 34% share of total imports. Cambodia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to plaster imports into Malaysia stood at -4.2%. At the same time, Vietnam (+3.7%), Thailand (+3.5%), Myanmar (+3.4%) and the Philippines (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +3.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cambodia (-11.2%) and Indonesia (-12.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines increased by +9.3, +3.2 and +3.1 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and Vietnam ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 68% of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +4.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cambodia (+15.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
