Cambodia (X tons) remains the largest hemp tow producing country in South-Eastern Asia, accounting for 70% of total volume. Moreover, hemp tow production in Cambodia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Singapore (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X kg), with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Cambodia totaled +1.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Singapore (+0.8% per year) and Vietnam (+0.7% per year).

Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X kg of hemp tow were exported in South-Eastern Asia; jumping by 206% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 31,600% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, hemp tow exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1,177% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Singapore (X kg) represented the major exporter of hemp tow, constituting 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X kg), mixing up an 11% share of total exports.
Singapore was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hemp tow exports, with a CAGR of -1.6% from 2012 to 2022. Indonesia (-20.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Singapore (+41 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Indonesia saw its share reduced by -36% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Singapore ($X) emerged as the largest hemp tow supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($X), with a 1.2% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 196% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 1,077% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia amounted to $X per ton.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, approx. X tons of hemp tow were imported in South-Eastern Asia; which is down by -4.3% on the previous year. In general, imports showed a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 248%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hemp tow imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 154% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The countries with the highest levels of hemp tow imports in 2022 were Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons), together accounting for 83% of total import. It was distantly followed by Cambodia (X tons), comprising a 7.6% share of total imports. The following importers - Singapore (X kg) and Thailand (X kg) - each amounted to a 7.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +15.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hemp tow in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Malaysia ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a 13% share.
In Indonesia, hemp tow imports expanded at an average annual rate of +13.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+5.8% per year) and Cambodia (-20.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 188%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
