In value terms, Indonesia ($X) remains the largest tissue paper supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Vietnam ($X), with a 10% share of total exports.

In Indonesia, tissue paper exports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+5.0% per year) and Malaysia (+10.0% per year).

Overall, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tissue paper imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 32%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Malaysia (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) represented the main importers of toilet or facial tissue stock, towel and similar paper in 2022, resulting at near 34% and 25% of total imports, respectively. Thailand (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 16% share, followed by Vietnam (13%). Indonesia (X tons), Cambodia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
