Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tall oil fatty acids exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 89%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Indonesia (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented roughly 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), mixing up a 12% share of total exports. The Philippines (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

In 2021, Singapore (X tons) represented the key importer of industrial tall oil fatty acids, making up 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons), together generating a 55% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +19.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 87% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, tall oil fatty acids import price increased by +98.0% against 2017 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
