Overall, exports, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a slight downturn. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Thailand (X tons) was the largest exporter of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft), mixing up 62% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Indonesia (6.5%), Malaysia (5.3%), Myanmar (5%) and Singapore (4.6%).

Exports from Thailand decreased at an average annual rate of -14.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Indonesia (+31.5%), Vietnam (+27.6%), Myanmar (+19.6%) and Malaysia (+11.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +31.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Singapore (-14.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (+16 p.p.), Indonesia (+6.3 p.p.), Myanmar (+4.6 p.p.) and Malaysia (+4.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Singapore and Thailand saw its share reduced by -2.5% and -28.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest internal combustion engine (excl. diesel, moto vehicle and aircraft) supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 89% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 2.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Myanmar, with a 2.6% share.

In Thailand, exports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) plunged by an average annual rate of -1.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Vietnam (+29.6% per year) and Myanmar (+15.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 167%. In 2021, supplies from abroad of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) increased by 5% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imports of internal combustion engines, excluding diesel (other than for motor vehicles and aircraft) expanded modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -1.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13%.
