Malaysia represented the major exporter of iron or steel skid chain in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was near 66% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons), together comprising a 27% share of total exports. In value terms, Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 95% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar, which together accounted for a further 4.2%.

Among the main exporting countries, Myanmar, with a CAGR of +50.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the export price increased by 160% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+37.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of iron or steel skid chain were imported in South-Eastern Asia; waning by -41.9% compared with the previous year. Overall, imports faced a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 182%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, metal skid chain imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 515% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 77% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Myanmar and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Myanmar, with a CAGR of +7.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 477%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
