Laser Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the Southeast Asian laser market decreased by -14.9% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a significant expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, laser production reached $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by 310%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, shipments abroad of lasers, other than laser diodes increased by 20% to X units, rising for the fifth consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 67%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, laser exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports posted a buoyant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Singapore prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 92% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Vietnam (X units) and Malaysia (X units) - together made up 5.4% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to laser exports from Singapore stood at +30.3%. At the same time, Vietnam (+47.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +47.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Malaysia (-13.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Singapore and Vietnam increased by +47 and +2.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest laser supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 5.8% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Singapore amounted to +22.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Malaysia (+1.3% per year) and Vietnam (+52.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the export price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while Vietnam ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+17.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

Laser imports fell to X units in 2021, declining by -5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 103%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, laser imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 124%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of laser imports in 2021 were Indonesia (X units), Malaysia (X units), Vietnam (X units) and Singapore (X units), together finishing at 98% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +50.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest laser importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +46.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, surging by 7% against the previous year. Import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, laser import price increased by +26.2% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while Indonesia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
