In 2022, Vietnam (X tons) was the key exporter of lemons and limes, comprising 75% of total exports. Thailand (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Malaysia (6.5%). Singapore (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of +34.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Thailand (+49.5%) and Singapore (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +49.5% from 2012-2022. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of lemons and limes, namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Brunei Darussalam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +44.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Indonesia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 76% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +51.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per ton), while Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
