In 2021, the Southeast Asian linoleum market increased by 2.8% to $X for the first time since 2012, thus ending a eight-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, showed a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

For the fourth consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in overseas shipments of linoleum, which decreased by -38.8% to X square meters in 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 539% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, linoleum exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 522%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Vietnam represented the key exporting country with an export of about X square meters, which reached 56% of total exports. Myanmar (X square meters) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Thailand (16%). Indonesia (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to linoleum exports from Vietnam stood at +25.7%. At the same time, Myanmar (+48.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +48.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-3.0%) and Indonesia (-7.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Vietnam (+39 p.p.) and Myanmar (+21 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Indonesia (-10.1 p.p.) and Thailand (-35.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Myanmar ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 92% of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +25.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per square meter, picking up by 3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 51%. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per square meter), while Myanmar ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+9.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of linoleum imported in South-Eastern Asia surged to X square meters, increasing by 21% on 2020 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 134%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, linoleum imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 64%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

The Philippines represented the main importer of linoleum in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of imports accounting for X square meters, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021.
