Maltodextrine Market Size in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in the Southeast Asian maltodextrine market, when its value increased by 3.3% to $X. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.
Maltodextrine Production in South-Eastern Asia
In value terms, maltodextrine production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Maltodextrine Exports
Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, shipments abroad of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup decreased by -8.9% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 191% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, maltodextrine exports rose to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 90%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Thailand represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 76% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together achieving a 20% share of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to maltodextrine exports from Thailand stood at +45.6%. At the same time, Vietnam (+52.1%), Malaysia (+16.0%) and Indonesia (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +52.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Thailand and Vietnam increased by +46 and +2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest maltodextrine supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Indonesia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand amounted to +31.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Indonesia (+17.5% per year) and Malaysia (+13.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep downturn. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+7.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Maltodextrine Imports
Imports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2021, the amount of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup imported in South-Eastern Asia expanded rapidly to X tons, increasing by 6.9% against 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, maltodextrine imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +51.0% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 40%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Indonesia (X tons), distantly followed by the Philippines (X tons), Thailand (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Vietnam (X tons) represented the major importers of maltodextrine and maltodextine syrup, together comprising 97% of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Indonesia (with a CAGR of +12.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), the Philippines ($X) and Thailand ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 58% share of total imports.
In terms of the main importing countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +10.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, surging by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+4.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
