Matches Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, the Southeast Asian matches market decreased by -1.3% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded a mild setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 6.9%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of matches, when their volume decreased by -19% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 120%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

In value terms, matches imports shrank to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Singapore ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 87% share of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +91.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, rising by 8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
