In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes, when their volume increased by 2.1% to X tons. Total exports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 69% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mattocks and rakes exports reduced to $X in 2022. Thailand (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons). All these countries together held near 35% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mattocks and rakes exports from Vietnam stood at +11.7%. At the same time, Indonesia (+22.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +22.0% from 2012-2022. Vietnam, with a CAGR of +12.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes decreased by -6% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 29% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, mattocks and rakes imports fell to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) and Myanmar (X tons) were the main importers of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes in South-Eastern Asia, together resulting at near 60% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons), together committing a 31% share of total imports. The following importers - Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up 5.1% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lao People's Democratic Republic (with a CAGR of +19.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
