In 2022, shipments abroad of goat meat increased by 233% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 569%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, goat meat exports surged to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 1,102% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Myanmar represented the key exporter of goat meat in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 63% of total exports in 2022. Singapore (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 17% share, followed by Malaysia (12%) and Vietnam (8%).

Exports from Myanmar decreased at an average annual rate of -5.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Singapore (+56.4%) and Vietnam (+11.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +56.4% from 2012-2022. Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, Myanmar ($X) remains the largest goat meat supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 6.7% share.

In Myanmar, goat meat exports declined by an average annual rate of -5.5% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Singapore (+43.7% per year) and Malaysia (-1.5% per year).

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 80%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The import price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -18.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the import price increased by 56%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
