Mica Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the Southeast Asian mica market, when its value decreased by -2.6% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Mica Production in South-Eastern Asia

In value terms, mica production fell markedly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the production volume increased by 210%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2021, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of mica, when their volume increased by 40% to X tons. Overall, exports saw a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 305%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mica exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 211%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which finished at 58% of total exports. Vietnam (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 41% share of total exports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the mica exports, with a CAGR of +37.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Singapore (+11.4%) and Vietnam (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Malaysia and Singapore increased by +53 and +7.7 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, the largest mica supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Malaysia ($X) and Vietnam ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

Malaysia, with a CAGR of +41.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -12.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 85%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of mica increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mica imports fell markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined sharply in the following year.

The countries with the highest levels of mica imports in 2021 were Vietnam (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Thailand (X tons), together reaching 98% of total import.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest mica importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Vietnam ($X), Thailand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together comprising 84% of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +3.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -27.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 32%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined markedly in the following year.
