Memories Market Size in South-Eastern Asia

The Southeast Asian memories market contracted significantly to $X in 2021, shrinking by -33.3% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed tangible growth. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Memories Production in South-Eastern Asia

In value terms, memories production expanded slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of multichip integrated circuits: memories increased by 59% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, memories exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X units) represented the key exporter of multichip integrated circuits: memories, generating 79% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X units), constituting a 16% share of total exports. The Philippines (X units) and Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +16.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+1,122.7%) and Malaysia (+3.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +1,122.7% from 2012-2021. In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the largest memories supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the Philippines, with a 9.4% share.

In Singapore, memories exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (+18.9% per year) and the Philippines (+1,090.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -12.8% against the previous year. Export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, memories export price increased by +91.8% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Memories Imports

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of multichip integrated circuits: memories decreased by -11.5% to X units for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 93%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, memories imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 110%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Singapore (X units) represented the largest importer of multichip integrated circuits: memories, constituting 53% of total imports. Vietnam (X units) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (18%). Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +6.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+120.0%), Thailand (+11.0%) and Malaysia (+10.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported multichip integrated circuits: memories in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 17% share.

In Singapore, memories imports increased at an average annual rate of +26.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (+21.5% per year) and Vietnam (+109.6% per year).
